Tours and Attractions

On Foot:

A short 5 minute stroll will take you to the first overlook, with a view of the Horse Islands and the eastern coast of the Great Northern Peninsula.

You can walk a further 5 minutes through the Island Cove RV site and access Caplin Cove Trail and the Island Cove Beach - a fantastic beach with crystal clear water, incredible standing rocks and walls of rock surrounding.

A moderate hike on gravelled pathways will lead you to the summit of the overlook with two viewpoints looking out at the Atlantic Ocean - perfect for spotting icebergs, Humpback and Minke whales in the summer time.

A more advanced hike will take you 200 steps up the side of the mountains along Boone’s Hill Trail, overlooking La Scie - where the name ‘the Saw’ comes from.

By Car:

The highest lookout overtop of Island Cove is accessible by car - following the road signage “French Shore Lookout”, then by a short flight of steps to the viewing platform. You can easily walk up to the Basques Lookout, as well - about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the house.

Snowmobile:

The trails are accessible and tours can be arranged. Travel from La Scie all the way to Deer Lake or Springdale and beyond!
